This Ph.D. will be effectuated within a collaborative MSCA-ITN project bringing together 9 academic partners and 6 industrial partners. This Ph.D. will be pursued in collaboration with Novartis (Switzerland) and several short-term stays in Novartis will be scheduled.
In addition, numerous seminars, meetings, and workshops will be organized.
A large number of simple heterocyclic fragments are readily available. Their synthesis, however, tends to require long sequences or demanding conditions for their further functionalization, often times limiting their interest as synthetic precursors. The project will consist in designing suitable surfactants that both promote C-H activation in bulk water, in virtue of supramolecular arrangement into micelles and induce templating of the chemistry, thus enabling such chemistry under mild reaction conditions, to enable their simple functionalization. The quest for such sustainable conditions is expected to open up new avenues for the C-H activation synthetic strategy that usually tends to require harsh reaction conditions.
