Description

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support first year female students to undertake studies in engineering at The University of Queensland who are currently experiencing financial barriers.

Eligibility

An applicant is eligible for the scholarship, if the applicant -

  • Submits an application to the Associate Dean, by the advertised closing date for applications, complete with cover letter, resume, demonstrate financial disadvantage and required short answer responses.
  • is a female student; and
  • is a domestic student in accordance with The University's Fee Policy; and
  • is enrolled full-time in the first year of the Approved Undergraduate Engineering Program; and
  • does not hold another scholarship that the Associate Dean considers to be similar.

Selection criteria

(1)     For the selection process, the Associate Dean must establish a selection committee, comprising:- 

  • the Associate Dean, or nominee, as Chair of the committee; and
  •  Ms Kathy Hirschfeld, AM or nominee; and
  • at least one academic staff who is currently teaching in engineering in an Approved Program.

(2)     The scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit based on-

  • evidence of financial disadvantage;
  • personal qualities including leadership potential and community serivce and/or engagement;
  • academic achievement to date; and interest in and need for mentoring/coaching and industry networking;
  • any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant's future success in the engineering profession.

(3)     The selection committee may decide to interview short-listed applicants.

Scholarship value : The annual value of the Scholarship will be at least $4,500, but will be limited to the annual income from the fund.
