Description

Awarded to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students studying an undergraduate or postgraduate program administered by the Faculty of Medicine or Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.

These bursaries are provided by a generous gift from UQ alumnus, Dr Alan Lan Van Tran and his wife Mrs Minh Ha Tran.

Activities that could be supported by this bursary include but are not limited to:

  • Funding or partial funding for the student to attend relevant conferences or leadership courses;
  • Textbooks and other items required for study;
  • Funding or partial funding towards an internship or placement being undertaken by the student.

Eligibility

An applicant is eligible for a Bursary if the applicant:

  1. submits an application to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit; and
  2. is of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
  3. is enrolled as a full time student in an Approved Program; and
  4. is a domestic student in accordance with The University’s Fee Policy; and
  5. does not hold another scholarship that the Pro-Vice-Chancellor considers to be similar.

Approved Program means any undergraduate or postgraduate program administered by the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.

Selection criteria

The bursary is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by:

  1. the strength and relevance of the applicant’s funding request to the applicant’s current academic studies;
  2. the applicant’s academic achievement in their studies to date; and
  3. the applicant’s finanical need; and
  4. any other matter that the Selection Committee considers relevant including the applicant’s community involvement and leadership potential.

Scholarship value : Annual income from endowment, based on number of scholarships

Number awarded : On the recommendation of the Committee, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Education) will determine the number of scholarships awarded in any year
