Description

The scholarship was established in 2011 and is maintained by an annual gift from Hatch. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support the study of engineering at The University of Queensland. The scholarship will be awarded to second year student studying the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (including duals) and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Master of Engineering in the following disciplines:

Civil Engineering / Extended Major; Civil and Environmental Engineering Dual Major; Civil and Geotechnical Engineering Dual Major; Chemical Engineering / Extended Major; Chemical and Biological Engineering Dual Major; Chemical and Environmental Engineering Dual Major; Chemical and Materials Engineering Dual Major; Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Dual Major; Mechanical Engineering / Extended Major; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dual Major; Mechanical and Materials Engineering Dual Major; Mechatronic Engineering Extended Major; Mining Engineering / Extended Major; and Mining and Geotechnical Engineering Dual Major.

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to students who:

  • are domestic students in accordance with The University's Fee Policy; and
  • are enrolled full-time in the Approved Program in a relevant field; and
  • has completed at least 12 units, but not more than 27 units towards an Approved Program in a relevant field; and
  • do not hold a scholarship that the Associate Dean considers to be similar.

How to apply

The scholarship will be available in February, 2020.

Selection criteria

1)     For the selection process, the Associate Dean must establish a selection committee,
comprising –

(a) the Associate Dean, or nominee, as chair of the committee; and
(b) one representative of Hatch; and
(c) at least one member of the University's academic staff who is currently teaching in the relevant field, with University staff comprising the majority.

(2) The selection committee may decide to interview short-listed applicants.

(3) The Scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by -

(a) academic achievement in courses undertaken to date; and
(b) personal qualities, including leadership potential; and
(c) any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant's future success in the engineering profession.

Scholarship value : $12,000 per year
