Our department

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences has a long and distinguished record of high-quality research. We are seeking excellent candidates to join our internationally recognised research groups in:

Each makes substantial contributions across the Department, e.g. in undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses, teaching, research and knowledge exchange. The Department is flourishing; in the 2019 National Student Survey (NSS) we scored 5th in the UK, our PGT cohort has increased from 30 to over 170 in the last 5 years, numbers of PhD students have doubled as has grant income this REF. We are at the heart of Strathclyde's award winning KE-ecosystem meaning we are working at an ever-greater scale and producing ever greater impact. These successes mean the department has grown significantly in recent years and we expect staff numbers to continue to rise rapidly.

The opportunity

We would love to hear from you if you have a PhD and postdoctoral research experience; an emerging publication history in high quality academic journals; and research interests which align with this area of strategic priority – particularly if you already hold an external fellowship that can be transferred to us.

In keeping with our commitment to equality and diversity, we encourage applications from all sections of the community, particularly those who can support our Athena SWAN activity, which inspires the advancement and representation of women in higher education.  For more information on diversity and inclusion at Strathclyde, please see here.

* Your Fellowship will normally be at lecturer level (exceptionally, at senior lecturer (Grade 9) (£52,560 - £59,135) where you have a strong track record in research leadership) for 5 years, with the expectation that you’ll meet our promotion criteria within that period and be transferred to senior lecturer (or, where you’ve been appointed as a senior lecturer, Reader) level.

For further details and to apply to be a ‘Strathclyder’ in Computer & Information Sciences, impress us with your research plan here.
