The LUT University School of Energy Systems in Lappeenranta, Finland, has one vacant (spring 2021) post-doctoral researcher position in the research area of smart power and energy grids at the Laboratory of Electricity Markets and Power Systems, the Department of Electrical Engineering. 


(1) Doctoral degree in electrical or computer engineering or computer science or a closely related field, 

(2) Good programming skills (e.g. GAMS, Julia, Python, Matlab); prior research experience particularly in one or more of the following areas: (i) algorithm development for machine learning and deep learning, (ii) algorithm development for peer-to-peer trading, and (iii) algorithm development for power system operation and planning studies,

(3) Multidisciplinary teamwork skills, the ability to conduct independent research, teaching skills, and high proficiency in written and spoken English,

(4) The ability to present research regularly at international conferences and workshops and to publish papers in leading academic journals in the research field,

(5) The ability to support the preparation of funding applications; existing networks with European, Nordic, and Finnish energy sector stakeholders is a great advantage.

About the employment relationship

The employment relationship is fixed-term with a six-month trial period. The position will start with a one-year term that can be extended for another three years, provided that the research has progressed and the researcher has obtained funding satisfactorily.

The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The work will start in March 2021 (negotiable).
