This is a three year fixed-term position with a start date at the beginning of March 2021 or as agreed. The position is located in the School of Technology and Innovation in Technobothnia Research and Development Laboratory (more precisely Additive Manufacturing Fabrication Lab - AMDF). The position is located in Vaasa and has a six (6) month trial-period.

Your role

Your role is to operate and maintain the selective laser sintering SLS Metal 3D Printer and related pre as well as post processing machinery to deliver consistently high quality products.

You will operate eg. power tools, blast cabinets, band saws, powder mixing machines and the powder and post processing oven post process and finalize printed parts. You'll also handle reactive and non-reactive metallic powers and inert gasses. Further tasks include monitoring, purchasing and storing materials and consumables for production. You will work under strict safety, health and environment (HSE) standards.

As Laboratory Engineer you will operate and maintain Technobothnia LMDM lab 3D printers including Multijetstrusion, SLA, DLP and FDM types of machines, acquire and store printing materials and post process printed parts. You'll also be working on a variety of 3D engineering tasks using different software tools for designing, 3D scanning, prototype testing, calibration, equipment trouble shooting, performing of experiments, data collection and data processing.

You'll work directly with the Team Leader to ensure operational goals and objectives are either met or exceeded and will give support in special projects, as required. As Laboratory Engineer you need to be able to carry out independent scientific research and responsible research-oriented organizational tasks. You are also required to participate actively in planning research and development projects, acquiring external funding and international collaboration. The Laboratory Engineer carries an overall responsibility of duties within research, education, and university administration within his/her special field.

The tasks include:
•    Complete, as required, all tasks of running and maintaining SLS, SLA, DLP and FDM 3D printing machines and associated pre and post processing equipment
•    Follow strictly operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; calling for repairs when needed
•    Maintain a run inventory of parts and completed build assemblies, print parts and tests performance with related procedures
•    Perform routine maintenance of equipment and tooling, including preventive maintenance and maintaining cleanliness of equipment and work area
•    Use precision measuring instruments to perform inspections of tooling, equipment, and product to ensure they meet requirements
•    Operate material handling equipment and change consumable materials
•    Gas bottles rack handling and replacement
•    Working with specialist protective gear and handling nano particles and metallic reactive and non-reactive powders under  Safety, Health and Environment (HSE) standards
•    Maintain machine build schedule, prioritize test prints and provide projected completion date of projects
•    Assist project team manager; attending and participating in group and project meetings, assist in training and development of manufacturing employees
•    Maintain up to date knowledge within the 3D printing industry both through research and by participating in educational opportunities surrounding 3D printing methods and materials

All tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan. The annual working time for laboratory engineer is 1612 hours.

Requirements

The candidate must have previous 3D printing experience and be comfortable with a wide range of printers and materials. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to use some of the most advanced technologies on the market and broadest selection of materials.

The position requires the ability to understand, utilize and modify 3D file formats and assembly documentation such as but not limited to the following: Schematics, BOM’s, CAD Drawings, Visuals, Testing tools and procedures.

Applicants are required to have a Master’s degree in the related field of Science, Industrial Management, Electronics or Electrical Engineering.

We offer

The salary will be based on both the job requirement and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The monthly salary of a Laboratory Engineer is based on job demand level 4 (2563€). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
