Senior Lecturer, International Development Studies


The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
 is currently seeking to recruit a

Senior Lecturer, International Development Studies, from September 1st 2021 until 31st December 2024.

The Senior Lecturer is expected to teach and supervise theses in an international 2-year Master’s Degree Programme in Development, Education and International Cooperation (DEICO), which is a joint programme with the Faculty of Education and Psychology. Additionally, the tasks of the Senior Lecturer include participation in development of the programme and supervision of PhD dissertations in the specialization in development studies. 

Qualifications we are looking for

The Senior Lecturer is expected to be an active independent researcher in international development studies with social science orientation, and have a potential to strengthen the research profile of the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy within its focus area of Sustainable Societies. In addition, activity in global research networks and potential for acquiring external funding are regarded as merits.

The duties and qualification requirements for the position of the Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have a command of Finnish language. When considered appropriate, the University may grant exemption from the language proficiency requirements. In this position, the language of instruction is English and excellent English skills are required.

The annual salary range will be approximately 38.800 – 64.200 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Six months trial period is applied to the filling of the position.
