The Department of Biological and Environmental Science is currently seeking to recruit a candidate to the position of 

SENIOR LECTURER in CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

The position starts on September 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter in effect until further notice.

Qualifications we are looking for

The expertise and research interests of the senior lecturer are expected to match research areas of interest within the Department of Biological and Environmental Science especially biological nanoscience and evolutionary biology. One of the focus areas in biological nanoscience is the cellular, molecular, genetic and evolutionary analysis of host-pathogen interactions. We specially search candidates who study host-pathogen interactions related to zoonotic diseases. 

The tasks of the senior lecturer are to lead and participate in the undergraduate and graduate teaching in virology, bacteriology, genetics or evolutionary biology, establish vigorous, extramurally funded research programs, and to participate in societal interactions in the discipline. 

You are the person we are looking for if you have a suitable Doctoral degree and demonstrated top-level research, publication and research funding records. Records in university level teaching and supervision are also valued. 

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of senior lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A good command of English is required and a proficiency to teach in English will be considered beneficial.

The annual salary range will be approximately 44,000 - 55,000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

Research of the Department of Biological and Environmental Science belongs to the University’s denoted core research activity field of basic natural phenomena and mathematical thinking. The research in the Department focuses on three main areas: evolutionary biology, natural resources and environment, and biological nanoscience. In biological nanoscience, biological processes are investigated at the molecular level and the information gathered from these investigations is utilized widely in the fields of natural sciences. The Department offers state of the art biosafety level 2 cell culturing facilities connected directly to the advanced imaging technologies, as well as the facilities in molecular biology and molecular genetics. The Department is directly connected with the research infrastructure at the Nanoscience Center of the University of Jyväskylä housing various microscopes, spectroscopy facilities, as well as nanoprocessing tools and clean room facilities. The Konnevesi research station, experimental ecology laboratories and modern greenhouses give cutting-edge facilities for wider use of experimental research from the molecular level to organism level.
