Work tasks

The person works in Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) as a Bioinformatician (Senior Specialist, Bioinformatics or Research Scientist, Bioinformatics). Tasks include participation in planning new research projects and participation in execution of research projects as a researcher specialized in bioinformatics. The person can also lead projects and apply for project funding. The position requires the person to be involved in scientific writing and publishing as an author. The person is expected to actively participate in developing field of bioinformatics in Luke.

The person should preferably work in Helsinki, Jokioinen, Oulu, Joensuu or Turku.

Qualifications

- PhD or MSc in relevant quantitative field (Bioinformatics, Computer science, Statistics or similar) or advanced Life Sciences degree (Genetics, Molecular biology, Biochemistry, or similar) with significant computational experience
- Research experience as a bioinformatician with animal and/or plant applications
- Experience in computational bioinformatics
- Experience dealing with non-model organisms
- Extensive knowledge and experience in one or several of the following: transcriptomics, metagenomics, genome assembly and annotation, genomics
- Knowledge and experience in relevant data analysis methods in bioinformatics and development of pipelines
- Knowledge in HPC (such as CSC services, computing clusters) and data repositories
- Programming skills in Python, R or similar. Skills in relevant software, such as Bash and specific bioinformatic tools
- Good written and oral skills in English language
- Experience in research project work
- Active collaboration and networking skills, team orientation

Salary

 The position is at complexity level 8-9 in Luke's salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is EUR 3,165.51-3,579.47 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50 % of the position-specific salary component. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
