Presentation of IMT Atlantique:

IMT Atlantique, internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading general engineering school under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technology, ranked in the 3 main international rankings (THE, SHANGAI, QS)

Situated on 3 campuses, Brest, Nantes and Rennes, IMT Atlantique aims to combine digital technology and energy to transform society and industry through training, research and innovation. It aims to be the leading French higher education and research institution in this field on an international scale. With 290 researchers and permanent lecturers, 1000 publications and 18 M€ of contracts, it supervises 2300 students each year and its training courses are based on cutting-edge research carried out within 6 joint research units: GEPEA, IRISA, LATIM, LABSTICC, LS2N and SUBATECH.

Presentation of the scientific field:

The MEE department (Mathematical and Electrical Engineering - https://www.imt-atlantique.fr/fr/l-ecole/departements-d-enseignement-recherche/mathematical-electrical-engineering) of IMT Atlantique is recruiting within its SI3 team (Security, Intelligence and Information Integrity) in the UMR 6285 CNRS Lab-STICC (Laboratory in Information, Communication and Knowledge Sciences and Technologies), a research lecturer specialized in the field of the security of the physical layer for wireless communications.

The SI3 team designs and develops methods, algorithms and solutions for securing the physical layer of communication systems. Members of this team are interested in problems related to the interception and identification of communication signals as well as in the design of interception-resistant waveforms. This dual approach is fundamental for this type of problem. In this field, everything can be considered as a challenge: identification methods are usually blind and design methods must take into account severe operational constraints in terms of stealth, noise level, interference, energy consumption, spectral occupancy or security.

The teaching activities of the successful candidate will mainly focus on mathematics for engineers (analysis, probability theory, numerical methods, optimization, ...) and signal processing within the first year of the engineering curriculum and/or within more advanced courses (2nd and 3rd year of the engineering curriculum). She/he will be also involved in the "Communication Systems Engineering" (ISC) track and will have an important role in the introduction of new physical layer security classes. The idea is to set up educational activities for the acquisition of know-how and operational skills both on the aspects of blind interception and analysis of communication signals but also on securing the physical layer (development of stealth waveforms for example). These activities will be implemented using an SDR (Software-Defined Radio) platform. The candidate will work with a varied audience: general engineering education (FISE), work-linked training for engineers (FIP), Master(s) (especially in English for MSc) or continuing education.

A second priority will be given to the contribution of the development of programs and pedagogical practices. The candidate will therefore be encouraged to propose new contents and methods for teaching at IMT Atlantique in relation with the different stakeholders of the teaching program (e.g., home and international students, research lecturers, industrial partners...).

Regarding research activities, the successful candidate will be part of the SI3 team of the Lab-STICC CNRS UMR 6285 laboratory. She/he will strengthen the team's skills in the development of methods dedicated to:

The preferred application frameworks for the development of these methods will cover radio-frequency signals as well as underwater acoustic signals. This research will rely on SDR platforms for the acquisition of real signals.

In terms of industrial valorization of research and support for innovation, the candidate will contribute to collaborative and partnership projects with our institutional and industrial partners (large companies, SMEs, ETI, ...) both in the context of bilateral collaborations and project submissions at the regional (Cominlabs, ...), national (ANR project, ...) or international (Horizon Europe project, ...) level. She/he will collaborate with other teams of the Lab-STICC laboratory, but also with inter-campus teams in Nantes or Rennes. A very good command of English as well as international experience are required to contribute to the reputation of IMT Atlantique.

In this context, to join our teams:

You have strong skills in the fields of digital communications, signal processing, information theory and a strong interest in interdisciplinary topics. In the MEE department, as a research lecturer, you will fulfil the main roles of training, research and development in academic and industrial circles, as well as internationally.

Your scientific skills will enable you to develop and participate in partnerships with partners from the economic and academic world, at regional, national and international levels.

You will contribute to the development and influence of the school through high-level publications, a proactive attitude to contract negotiation and an active contribution to the life of the school.

Your experience in designing and supervising teaching activities will allow you to promote learning by challenging learners with multidisciplinary problems. You are particularly interested in the competency-based approach, innovative teaching methods and the diversification of assessment methods.

Your command of English is strong enough to teach in this language.

You are really dynamic and know how to develop synergies and manage projects in training and research in a multidisciplinary environment.

Sensitive to the challenges of sustainable development and social responsibility, you act in an ethical and responsible manner and have demonstrated that these dimensions are taken into account in the projects you have carried out.

The post is based on the Brest campus. Travel in France and abroad is to be expected. You will be asked to submit an integration project for all the tasks described to demonstrate your motivation for the job.
