Presentation of the IMT Atlantique:

IMT Atlantique, internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading general engineering school under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technology, ranked in the 3 main international rankings (THE, SHANGAI, QS)

Situated on 3 campuses, Brest, Nantes and Rennes, IMT Atlantique aims to combine digital technology and energy to transform society and industry through training, research and innovation. It aims to be the leading French higher education and research institution in this field on an international scale. With 290 researchers and permanent lecturers, 1000 publications and 18 M€ of contracts, it supervises 2300 students each year and its training courses are based on cutting-edge research carried out within 6 joint research units: GEPEA, IRISA, LATIM, LABSTICC, LS2N and SUBATECH.

Presentation of the scientific field:

The MEE department (Mathematical and Electrical Engineering - https://www.imt-atlantique.fr/fr/l-ecole/departements-d-enseignement-recherche/mathematical-electrical-engineering) of IMT Atlantique is recruiting within its 2AI (Algorithm-Architecture Interaction) team an associate professor in high performance and energy efficient embedded systems. The 2AI team, belonging to the T2I3 pole (Traitement et Transmission de l’Information, algorIthme et Intégration) of the Lab-STICC laboratory, designs original architectures for the integration of specific algorithms in information processing and contributes to the definition and implementation of these algorithms. Its primary application domains are those of digital communications and artificial intelligence. The team's approach is based on the combination of skills in algorithms, architectures and embedded systems design.

The team wishes to develop its activities in the field of sustainable design for high performance computing. Indeed, the digital transition requires more and more computing, storage and communication capacities, and generates a significant and continuous increase of the carbon footprint (manufacturing of new circuits, energy consumption, ...). To limit this footprint, one of the keys is, for example, to use and design heterogeneous, parallel, distributed, energy-efficient architectures capable of handling changing applications. This theme, which is in line with the strategic orientations of IMT Atlantique, is a major priority in European research programs[1] and international calls for papers[2].

Therefore, the MEE department is looking for a candidate with the expertise to contribute to the design of high performance embedded systems, with the ambition to propose innovative, energy efficient and sustainable solutions. Targeted architectures could be general purpose processors (x86, Power ISA), embedded processors (ARM, RISC-V), graphics processors (GPU) or heterogeneous architectures (SoC FPGA). The application domains considered by the candidate could be digital communications or artificial intelligence, in interaction with the other members of the team (or more broadly of the Lab-STICC laboratory), or new domains that would enrich the existing ones.

With its top ranking among the "grandes écoles" in France, IMT Atlantique trains engineers at the highest level. With embedded systems, high-performance computing and the design of digital architectures meeting a strong industrial need nowadays, candidates are expected to invest in teaching related to these fields.

In this context, to join our teams:

You have strong skills in high performance computing or in related fields such as high-level synthesis, hardware-software co-design. In the department, as an Associate Professor, you will fulfil the main roles of training, research and development in academic and industrial contexts, as well as internationally.

Your scientific skills and your experience in project management will enable you to develop and participate in partnerships with partners from the economic and academic world, at regional, national and international levels.

You will contribute to the development and influence of the school through high-level publications, a proactive attitude to contract negotiation and an active contribution to the life of the school.

Your significant experience in designing and supervising teaching activities will allow you to promote learning by confronting learners with multidisciplinary problems. You are particularly interested in the competency-based approach, innovative teaching methods and the diversification of assessment methods.

Your command of English is strong enough to teach in this language.

You are really dynamic and know how to develop synergies and manage projects in training and research in a multidisciplinary environment.

Sensitive to the challenges of sustainable development and social responsibility, you act in an ethical and responsible manner and have demonstrated that these dimensions are taken into account in the projects you have carried out.

The post is based on the Brest campus. Travel in France and abroad is to be expected.

You will be asked to submit an integration project for all the tasks described to demonstrate your motivation for the job.
