School overview

IMT Atlantique, internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading general engineering school under the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technology, listed in the 3 main international rankings (THE, SHANGAI, QS).

On 3 campuses, Brest, Nantes and Rennes, IMT Atlantique aims to combine digital technology and energy to transform society and industry through training, research and innovation. Its ambition is to be the leading French higher education and research establishment in this field internationally. With 290 permanent researchers and teacher-researchers, 1,000 publications and €18 million in contracts, it supervises 2,300 students every year. Its training courses are based on cutting-edge research, within 6 mixed research units under its supervision: GEPEA, IRISA, LATIM, LABSTICC, LS2N and SUBATECH.

Scientific area overview

The Department of Energy Systems and Environment (DSEE https://www.imt-atlantique.fr/en/school/departments/energy-and-environmental-systems) of IMT Atlantique is recruiting a lecturer-researcher specialized in the fields of Process Engineering for Energy and the Environment and Process Modelling within its Water and Air Treatment - Metrology (TEAM) team.

The DSEE hosts around 70 people including 20 permanent lecturer-researchers, 6 engineers and technicians, 3 administrative staff, doctoral students, research engineers and post-docs.. The department is part of the UMR CNRS unit GEPEA developing research in process engineering applied to bio-resources and environmental technologies through three research teams: Water and Air Treatment - Metrology (TEAM); Energy / Residue Matter recovery and Emissions Processing (VERTE); Optimization - System - Energy (OSE).

Furthermore, in 2014, the department has set up a platform (named PREVER) for Research and Studies on the Energy Valorisation of Residues, as well as a SafeAir platform for the treatment of air pollutants.

The TEAM team's activities focus on flow, separation with transfer - reaction applied to water and air treatment. The team's approach is to provide relevant answers to the problems encountered by optimising, intensifying and coupling processes or by integrating performance monitoring via sensors or advanced analytical monitoring. The work developed by the team aims to provide integrated "Measurement-Diagnosis-Process" solutions focused on the major issues of environmental transition: air quality and water management, reducing the impact of human activity on receiving environments.

The processes are developed according to the specific properties of the target pollutants identified (e.g. VOCs, NOx, PM, nanoparticles, organic micro-pollutants, microorganisms, etc.) which are found in complex, multi-component aqueous or atmospheric matrices of urban and industrial origin.

As for teaching activities, the candidate may be involved in engineering training and more precisely in the common training path (physics, scientific calculation and numerical methods, experimental projects, etc.) and in the in-depth themes (TEE and TEE*), in apprenticeship training (courses related to energy optimisation, etc.) and in the PBPE/PM3E international Master's degree. A strong involvement is expected in the implementation of new pedagogical forms, with particular attention paid to the evolution of the training programmes.

In this context, to join our teams

You have strong skills in Chemical/Process Engineering for energy or environment, and an appetence for flow modeling approaches in air handling systems (e.g. Ansys/fluent) coupled with the implementation of sensors through experimental pilot studies (e.g. local scale response/average behavior representativeness). The recruited candidate will be able to integrate other elements in his/her approach and to interact with the teaching and research staff of the department working on approaches/competencies that he/she will not develop him/herself. Within the department, as a teacher-researcher, you will carry out the main missions of training, research and valorisation in academic and industrial environments, as well as internationally.

With your scientific skills, your experience in project management will enable you to develop and participate in collaborations with partners from the economic and academic world, at regional, national and international level.

You will contribute to the development and influence of the school through high-level publications, a contractual dynamic and an active contribution to the life of the school.

Your significant experience in the design and supervision of teaching activities allows you to promote learning by confronting learners with multidisciplinary problems. You are particularly interested in the competency-based approach, innovative pedagogical devices, and the diversification of evaluation methods, including pedagogical exercises carried out in the workplace.

Your knowledge of English allows you to teach in this language.

With a real dynamism, you know how to develop synergies and manage training and research projects in a multidisciplinary environment.

Aware of the challenges of sustainable development and social responsibility, you act in an ethical and responsible manner and have demonstrated that these dimensions are taken into account in the projects you have carried out.

The Position is based on the Nantes campus. Business trips in France and abroad are to be expected.

In order to support your motivation, you will be asked to complete an integration project for all the proposed missions.
