Job Position

The mission of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, is to contribute to the research fields of Food Technology, Food Chemistry, and Food Microbiology.

Research topics include: i) microplastics in food, ii) allergens in food, iii) food proteins, iv) insect-based foods, v) non-destructive analysis of foods for detecting food fraud and food authenticity, vi) life cycle analysis of food production processes, vii) antimicrobial strategies for fruit and vegetables, viii) food digestion.

The members of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology contribute to theoretical and practical courses at GUGC. The Centre also prepares students (BA/MA/PhD) for their careers in food science, both in academia, R&D, and food production.

The Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, has a vacancy for a Full-time Postdoctoral Researcher position, starting from May 1, 2021 (open to negotiation). It concerns a 2-year fixed contract position with a possible extension based on positive evaluation and considering the campus operational circumstances.

The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Sam Van Haute at the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology of the Ghent University Global campus in Songdo, Incheon. The candidate must have experience in obtaining Korean Government Funding and a good publication record.

Job Qualification (Profile of the Candidate)

Job Description

The position is part research (70%) and part teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses (including practical exercises) (30%). Teaching duties will be in one are more of the following courses (Modern Aspects of Food, Chemical Analytical Methods, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Technology of Non-Animal Products, Introduction to Biochemistry: Biomolecules ). The selected candidate will conduct research projects in the domain of food science, with research interest in food technology, food chemistry or food microbiology, resulting in publishing in high ranking scientific journals. The selected candidate will try to acquire funding in cooperation with the professors of the research centre. The position also gives the opportunity to collaborate with research groups at the Ghent University.

Compensation & Benefits for the candidate selected

Salary

-starts from Annual Base Salary of 46,624,160 KRW (Monthly Salary of 3,885,347 KRW, Gross)

Bonuses

-Additional two bonuses in June (92% of monthly salary) and December (100% monthly salary)

Two round-tickets to Hometown (For foreigners only)

-The selected candidate with foreign nationality, shall have two round-tickets to Home town per year (up to 4,000,000 KRW)

Severance

-Severance shall be paid when the contract ends and if the candidate works more than one year.
