KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) is one of the five schools of KTH and a strong constellation for research and education in the broader areas of health, environment, energy and materials. The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health conducts research and education in areas that cover several global challenges. Among them are the need of sustainable energy, health and aging population, climate change, sustainable production and working life, food production and clean water.

This position is placed at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Solna. For more information se our homepage: http://www.scilifelab.se/

Project description

This Ph.D. position is in the Division of Systems Biology, part of the Department of Proteomics. The group of Paul Hudson does research on bacteria that fix carbon dioxide, such as cyanobacteria. These bacteria could be used in industry as cell factories to produce biochemicals. Cyanobacteria in particular are also models for carbon fixation in plant chloroplasts. This project will determine how the enzymes in carbon fixation in various CO2-fixing bacteria are controlled, with a focus on allostery and metabolite inhibition. The project will use systems biology techniques, such as genomics and proteomics, to achieve these goals. The project is part of a consortium that seeks to improve carbon fixation in bacteria and plants. The student will work with postdocs and there is the possibility for visits to collaborating laboratories. The project is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by:Paul Hudson

Third-cycle subject: Type in the third-cycle subject the doctoral student will be admited to Biotechnology.
