KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Information and Communication Technology

This project from the Swedish National Space Agency aims to develop manufacturing methods for fabrication of high voltage integrated circuits in silicon carbide (SiC). KTH already has separate processes for integrated circuits and high voltage transistors in SiC, but now we want to combine the two. The finished integrated circuits will be used for electric propulsion in small satellites. Some testing of the circuits will be done in collaboration with GomSpace Sweden.

Project name: ICARUS - Integrated Circuits for electrically powered spAcecraft pRopulsion Using Silicon carbide

You will be working in a group of researchers and supervisors with competencies in semiconductor devices, circuit design, physical and electrical simulation, process integration, and electrical measurements. As a PhD student you will be fabricating and characterizing the high voltage integrated circuits. Process development in the clean room is an important part of this work. Depending on interest, you can also be involved in circuit design and electrical and physical simulation.

Supervision: Prof. Carl-Mikael Zetterling, Prof. Gunnar Malm and Docent Per-Erik Hellström.

What we offer

Eligibility
