PhD position in Analytical Toxicology

- Human exposure to plasticizers leaching from plastic medical devices in Neonatal Intensive Care and impact on the long-term neurocognitive and pulmonary development -

The Toxicological Centre (TC) - Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences and the Laboratory of Experimental Medicine and Pediatrics (LEMP) - Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences - University of Antwerp are looking for a full-time PhD student for investigating the human exposure to plasticizers leaching from plastic medical devices in Neonatal Intensive Care and the impact on the long-term neurocognitive and pulmonary development. This project is funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and will be performed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Adrian Covaci (TC), Prof. Dr. Philippe Jorens (LEMP, UZA) and Prof. Dr. Antonius Mulder (LEMP).

This PhD project funded by the Flanders Foundation Research (FWO) will be mostly executed at the Toxicological Centre (TC), which has a longstanding experience, analytical skills and instrumental capabilities related to the human biomonitoring and assessment of environmental and human toxicology, with emphasis on legacy and emerging contaminants (including phthalates and flame retardants). The PhD student is expected to determine the levels of plasticizers in different matrices and also contribute to the sample collection and to the clinical follow-up of the patients in collaboration with another PhD student at LEMP.
