The purpose of the scholarship is to enable students to undertake and continue studies in the discipline of horticulture.

The scholarship was established in 2016 and is maintained by the income from a bequest from the late Mr Alexander Gordon Ewing. Mr Ewing was a student at Gatton campus when it was the Queensland Agricultural High School and College. The College took pupils in Years 8-10. Mr Ewing was a member of the Gatton Past Students Association from 2005 up until his death in 2013 at age 88.


An applicant is eligible for the award of the Scholarship in a year if the applicant:​

  •  is enrolled in Bachelor of Agricultural Science with a major in Horticulture
  •  has not previously been awarded The Ewing Agricultural Science Scholarship or The Ewing Veterinary Science Scholarship; and
  • submits an application to the Associate Dean, by the closing date for applications.

Please complete and submit the Ewing Horticulture Scholarship online application form by 16th April 2021 at 11.59 PM AEST. Please ensure you've read the prompts in the application form and attach all relevant supporting documents before submitting your application. No late or incomplete scholarship applications will be considered.

All submissions will be kept confidential and only used for the purposes of assessing the scholarship. 

Selection criteria

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing the greatest merit, as demonstrated by:

  • academic achievement
  • personal qualities, including leadership potential and community service
  • preference may be given to students from a rural background.

Scholarship value : at least $4,500

Number awarded : at least 1
