“iSTARS - Informatics and Statistical Tools for the Advancement of Research Success” is a project of Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa (FMUL, Portugal) recently funded by the EU for a 6-year period (Grant agreement ID: 952377, https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/952377). iSTARS will enact a true transformational change that will promote excellence in research and in acquisition of funding, by forming a new unit led by a researcher recruited for the ERA Chair position.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent scientific credentials in the general scientific area of the project (above), at the R3 or R4 level[1], who is willing to help build a robust and leading group in data science for health research. The successful candidate is expected to shape this new research direction in interaction with other researchers of the School of Medicine, participate in defining new teaching needs in the areas of the project, and lead an interdisciplinary team in research and acquisition of new funding.

You will also be in charge of strategic directions and implementation of all planned Work Packages in the ERA Chair project implementation.

Main responsibilities

Background and experience required

The successful candidate will have made first-rate contributions to areas of interest for this project, namely data science for health research (for example, but not exclusively, medical statistics, artificial intelligence in health/medicine, medical informatics, big data in health research, biostatistics, epidemiology). You will have demonstrated potential as a first-rate researcher, capability to attract research funding, successful experience in teaching, and a proven track-record of administration of research, and will be willing to manage (with administrative support) the ERA Chair project, which funds the position. The ERA Chair holder will have a strong focus on interdisciplinary research and promoting collaborations among multiple stakeholders, both within the School of Medicine and farther afield, including the University of Lisbon and societal partners (e.g., pharmaceutical companies, public organizations, patients’ associations).
