The Young Conservationist Scholarship Program is an 8-month program that transforms action-oriented youth into conservation leaders. Through the program, the B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) provides a supportive and educational environment for up to 25 selected youth to spearhead their own conservation initiative or project in their community, display their projects at the BCWF Annual General Meeting, and compete for a $1,000 minimum scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be in grade 11 or below
  • Must be currently enrolled in a B.C. school
  • Must be a dependent of a BCWF Member, have a BCWF Member Sponsor, or be a BCWF Junior Member*.

*If you are not a BCWF member, you can easily become one here for as low as $56 annually. If this eligibility requirement is a barrier for you, please email us at [email protected] and we will work with you to support your application.

Offered Benefits

If selected to participate, youth will have 8 months to create and facilitate their own conservation project in their community. The program will begin with a virtual conference, with workshops and lectures on leadership, project management, and conservation. BCWF staff will be available for support through check-ins held every two months. After completing their project, participants will be asked to submit a report on how their projects went.

After projects are completed, BCWF staff will select one project which exceeds expectations and demonstrates conservation excellence. The selected participant will be awarded a scholarship ($1,000 minimum) and the opportunity to present their project at the 2022 BCWF Annual General Meeting (AGM). All other participants will have the opportunity to display project posters at the AGM.

All program gatherings will be held over Zoom to allow youth across B.C. to participate.
