Form of employment: Employment as a doctoral student is time-limited in accordance with HF Chapter 5 §7. The total employment period may not be exceen that of a full-time postgraduate position of a four year period. 

Start date of the employment contract no later than 2021-10-01. 

Job description 

The doctoral thesis will be carried out within the framework of a research project in choir singing and healthy aging. The current project aims to explore the effects of 10 months choral singing on cognitive health and well-being in 60 community-dwelling elderly participant aged 65-75 years. The doctoral student will be involved collecting and analysing fMRI data and data that will be assessed via questionnaires. The data collection will be carried out in Stockholm and therefore the successful applicant will be required to work remotely from another county (e.g outside Småland and Kronoberg). Documented practical experience of collecting and analyzing fMRI data, in addition a good theoretical knowledge in the field of cognitive psychology and cognitive neurosciences is a requirement.  The position also requires good programming skills in R, Python, MatLab or similar. The dissertation is carried out within the framework of the project. The assignments include postgraduate education leading to a doctoral degree corresponding to four years of full-time studies. 

The Higher Education Ordinance states that those who are employed as doctoral students must primarily engage in their own education. However, an employee may to a limited extent work with the education of others, research and administration. Such work may, before the doctoral degree has been completed, not exceed more than 20% of full-time work. 

A doctoral position is full-time..  Employment can relate to part-time work at the request of the doctoral student,  however the position will then be 50% of full-time. Note that a doctoral student employed at 50% cannot engage in anything other than his or her own education within the framework of the employment. 

Eligibility requirements:

  • Qualifications in advanced level
  • Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in some other way have an acquired essentially equivalent knowledge within or outside of Sweden 

Special requirements:

For special eligibility to be admitted to postgraduate education is required:

  • at least 90 higher education credits in the subject of psychology, of which at least 30 higher education credits at advanced level or equivalent

knowledge acquired in some other way within or outside of Sweden.

  • Excellent writing- and communication skills in English. 

In addition to basic and special qualifications, the following documented experience or education is particularly meritorious:

  • Review of research (e.g. literature reviews, control of statistics)
  • Statistical data analysis in Statsoft, R or Python
  • Programming in MatLab, R, or Python as well as web development
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in cognitive neuroscience
  • Previous working experience in research (e.g. research assistant) 
  • Special emphasis is placed on assessing the quality of essays from the bachelor's and master's level. 

    Other assessment criterias

    • Ability to successfully complete a doctoral program in the subject.
    • Previous research experiences in music psychology, cognitive psychology or neurosciences is an advantage.
