The position is offered within the area of informatics, with a specialization in artificial intelligence (AI)/data science. At the University of Skövde, informatics is defined as the science that studies how information is represented, processed and communicated in artificial and natural systems, and how such systems are used and developed in order to achieve usable and effective applications and solutions for individuals, organizations or society.

The senior lecturer will strengthen the competence areas within AI and data science. The position primarily comprises teaching, research, administration and supervision. Additional assignments may be included in the position. The senior lecturer will contribute to the research conducted within the Skövde Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL) and will be part of the teaching team for the Data Science Master’s programs. The research group SAIL at the University of Skövde consists of about 20 researchers and teachers focusing on various aspects of AI and data science. In recent years, trustworthy AI and machine learning (ML) have emerged as focus areas of SAIL, and today they’re part of almost all of the group’s activities, from understanding complex industrial processes to situation analysis and awareness, from design of molecules within cheminformatics to tactical decision support in aircraft. Regarding trustworthy AI, of particular interest are issues related to trustworthy AI by design, human-centred AI/data science, e.g., visual analytics, interactive ML and automated decision-support, and explainable AI (XAI). In terms of ML, of particular interest are issues related to advanced analytics, i.e., predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, and forecasting, and issues related the usefulness and usability of ML, e.g., how to incorporate domain knowledge and human expertise in ML. The group has a focus on applied research, with a wide range of partners in industry and the public sector: Steel and process industry, defence and security, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical industry, agricultural industry, retail, sport industry and healthcare. For this position, special emphasis will be placed upon documented experience in teaching trustworthy/explainable AI/data science, documented experience of research in trustworthy/explainable AI/data science, documented experience in collaboration with academia, business, and public sector, and documented experience of applying for and receiving external research grants.
