Description

The IChemE Ming Leung Scholarship was established in 1993 by the Queensland Branch of the Institution of Chemical Engineers IChemE. Professor Ming Leung was a greatly respected and highly talented chemical engineer as well as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1980 to 1985. His untimely death was a great loss to both the profession and to the University. To encourage and support a meritorious 3rd year student studying the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, students must:

  • be a domestic student in accordance with The University's Fee Policy; and
  • be enrolled full-time in the third year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program or an engineering integrated program, or an engineering dual program, in any field in the chemical engineering discipline; and
  • be a member of IChemE or have applied for membership prior to application; and
  • not hold a scholarship that the Head of School considers to be similar.

Selection criteria

The scholarship will be awarded to the most meritorious student based on the following:

  • academic merit in the Bachelor of Engineering studies to date; and
  • the strength of interest the applicant shows in their specific field of engineering; and
  • personal qualities including leadership potential; and
  • any other factors that the selection committee deems relevant to the applicant's future success in the engineering profession.
