The University of Tokyo provides Japanese Government Funding (MEXT) for new international students to pursue graduate studies at the Graduate School of Science.

The scholarship aims to attract outstanding international participants and support their masters or doctoral studies in Japan.

Founded in 1877, the University of Tokyo is a public research university. It is the first imperial university and also recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in Japan.

Why study at the University of Tokyo? The university has its five campuses in Hongo, Komaba, Kashiwa, Shirokane and Nakano. It offers a variety of university level courses and financial support to its applicants.

Eligibility

Eligible Countries: International applicants are eligible.

Different specialties are available in the departments of physics, astronomy, earth and planetary sciences, chemistry and biological sciences of the university.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1985.

You must apply for the field of study they studied at their previous university or a related field.

You must be in good enough physical and mental health to continue your education.

Must meet certain criteria set by MEXT with outstanding academic results.

Supporting documents: your application form must contain a study and research plan, a letter of recommendation from the “dean or superior”, a passport-type photo, an application form for the program of your choice, transcripts official, proof of linguistic competence, an official declaration of graduation. , and a copy of the student's passport.

Language Requirements: Participants must demonstrate proficiency in English through the TOEFL or IELTS test.

Advantages

The award will provide a monthly stipend (1121.05 Euro / month (for a student in a master's program) or 1128.84 Euro / month (for a student in a doctoral program) (an additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be added for students undertaking study or research in certain designated areas of the country), as well as travel expenses to Japan.
