Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree in Network Analysis of Musical Improvisation
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree, (ii) coursework Masters with at least 25% research component, (iii) a Research Masters degree, or (iv) equivalent overseas qualifications.
  • Have demonstrated research experience in one of the fields of the project: candidates need to have some interest in improvised music.
  • Have a background in computational sociology, ideally including some experience with quantitative network modeling. Alternatively, they might be trained in music and improvisation and have strong computational abilities. Thus they need a background in some combination of the following: computer science, music creation, and musicology, sociology.
  • Be enthusiastic and highly motivated to undertake further study at an advanced level.

Offered Benefits

Western Sydney University will provide the study expenses in the following manner:

  • Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset.
  • International candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs. Those with a strong track record will be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
  • Support for conference attendance, fieldwork, and additional costs as approved by the Institute.
  • Access to the extensive range of MARCS specialised equipment and laboratory facilities.
  • Additional funding to support training and equipment purchases.
  • A rich environment of support and academic expertise via supervisory panels, seminars, colloquia, international and industry collaborations.

  • A copy of your CV with contact information for two referees.
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must check all the entry requirements of the university.
  • Language Requirement: Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency
