The American Political Science Association (APSA) offers grants for projects that support political science and related departments at universities in the Arab World for projects supporting excellence in the study, research, and teaching of political science.

The program is funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York and aims to support political science research and networking among early-career scholars (Ph.D. students and faculty members) across the Arab Middle East and North Africa. Working with APSA staff, selected faculty members will design innovative, tailored projects that meet departmental goals for success. Examples of specific projects which departments may undertake include:

  • Training in research methodology and fieldwork.
  • Workshops to support MA students in completing a thesis.
  • Seminars to discuss teaching techniques and pedagogy.
  • Workshops or grants to support faculty and Ph.D. students advance research towards publication.
  • Lectures and resources for professional development and networking.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Proposals from university-affiliated research centers and political science departments in universities in the Arab MENA region are accepted, as well as from social sciences departments and interdisciplinary programs such as programs focusing on public law, international studies, diplomacy, etc.
  • The initial application must be submitted by a full-time faculty member with the support from a department chair or dean.

Grant Value:

APSA will award grants of up to $10,000 for project activities through 2021.
