The Third Interdisciplinary Corruption Research (ICR) Forum “Mechanisms of Corruption: Regional Perspectives and Potential Solutions” aims to bring together international junior researchers working in the field of (anti-)corruption. Workshops, presentations and keynote speeches will focus on the corruption and welfare nexus through a regional and context-specific lens. The Forum aims to bridge the gap between academia and the policy sphere, and as such, will also host a panel debate between scholars and international investigative journalists. The panel will be open to the public.
The ICRForum 2018 will offer a platform for presenting research and exchanging new ideas on how corruption works in practice and how the mechanisms of corruption, e.g. norms, vary across regions and cultures. These discussions will combine theoretical and empirical efforts to identify contextspecific patterns of corruption and respective anti-corruption policies. Understanding the mechanisms of corruption boils down to answering questions such as: “Why do citizens support and actively participate in corruption?”, “What incentives do politicians and bureaucrats have to engage in or to fight corruption?”, or “How do anti-corruption movements develop?”
We warmly invite young researchers from all disciplines (including, but not limited to, psychology, economics, political science, sociology, law, anthropology, history) to apply by February 15, 2018 on the following link. In your application please indicate whether you would like to present your research results, work in progress or explore new ideas. The ICRForum is especially aimed at junior researchers (PhD, Post-Docs), but qualified Master students can also apply. Notification of acceptances will be sent out on the 10th of March, 2018.
The Interdisciplinary Forum will take place on 7th - 9th June, 2018, at the Quality of Government Institute (QoG), University of Gothenburg (Sweden). Thanks to the funding of QoG, the event is free of charge, including coffee and snacks for both days and a joint conference dinner on the first evening of the Forum. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and accommodation. Currently, we are trying to find opportunities to provide funding for participants from developing countries. If successful, we will announce further procedures on our website and Facebook group where information is actively kept up-to-date.
