Queensland University offers Scholarship that aims to encourage and support honors students in the discipline of Classics and Ancient History to do researches that further their studies in the School of Historical and Philosophical in The University of Queensland in Australia.

Value of the Scholarship:

  • The value of the Scholarship is $6,250 per year.
  • 2 Scholarships are awarded in a year on the recommendation of the Head.

Eligibility for award:

An applicant is eligible for the Scholarship if the applicant:

  • Submits an application to the Head, by the closing date for applications. 
  • Is either enrolled in the honors year of the approved program.
  • Or has submitted an application for admission to the honors program.
  • Does not hold another scholarship that the Head considers to be similar.

Scholarship Conditions:

  • The recipient may hold the Scholarship for up to one year subject to the recipient: 
    • If applicable, being accepted into their honors program.
    • Continuing to be enrolled full-time in the Approved Program.
    • Conducting themselves in a professional manner while undertaking travel or completing an internship. 
  • The Scholarship may be suspended on approval from the Head and only with exceptional circumstances. 
  • If a recipient fails to satisfy the previous rules, the recipient must show cause to the Head, why the Scholarship should not be canceled. 
  • The Scholarship holder may be requested by the Head, within 3 months of returning to Australia, to submit a written report of approximately 2,000 words on the work done and the benefits derived from the holding of the Scholarship.

Selection of Award:

In the selection process,  the Head must establish a selection committee, comprising

  • The Head of School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry or staff nominee as chair.
  • The holder of the Paul Eliadis Chair of Classics and Ancient History or staff nominee Dr. Vera Osiecki or nominee.
  • The Director of the R.D. Milns Antiquities Museum or staff nominee.

The Scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by: 

  • Academic achievement and potential for scholastic success.
  • How travel or undertaking an internship will enhance the student’s honors year studies.
  • Any other matters the committee considers relevant.
