On May 23, 2007, the Government of Romania, following the commitment made during the XI Francophonie Summit (Bucharest, September 2006), adopted a decree for the creation of a system of doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships, entitled “Eugen Ionescu”. The scholarship program bears the name of the playwright Eugen Ionescu to pay tribute to the Romanian-French writer, an emblematic figure of 20th century literature and a major representative of the theater of the absurd, through famous works such as La Cantatrice brûlé , The Lesson and The Chairs.
