The Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law is thrilled to announce scholarships for foreign doctoral candidates to support their research stay at the Institute for up to six months.

This scholarship is open to doctoral candidates working within the Institute’s areas of research, namely the Department of European and Comparative Procedural Law, the Department of International Law and Dispute Resolution, or the Max Planck Fellowship Research Group, which focuses on the enforcement of European Financial Market Regulation.The Max Planck Institute (MPI) Luxembourg for Procedural Law is a dynamic research institution that conducts multidisciplinary and collaborative research in international, European, comparative, and regulatory procedural law. It is one of five Max Planck Institutes outside of Germany, and the first to specialize on legal issues.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nations
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The PhD scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Applicants must be doctorate candidates conducting research in one of the Institute’s core areas.
  • Must aim to join either the European and Comparative Procedural Law Department or the International Law and Dispute Resolution Department.

Offered Benefits

  • The scholarship is paid in 1.500 euro monthly installments.
  • Those who are chosen will be assigned a workstation in the Institute’s reading room. They will be able to attend regular scientific activities hosted by the Institute and may have access to the Institute’s library.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To apply, interested candidates meeting the requirements of the call must submit the following documents, in English:
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide the following supporting documents:
  • A cover letter (maximum of one page) outlining their motivation for applying.
  • Current curriculum vitae, including the class of degree earned and the number of publications.
  • A two-page synopsis of the PhD project, containing the subject, description, and work plan.
  • Two recommendation letters.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must fulfill the following admission documents:
  • Applicants must be highly qualified applicants with a strong international focus in terms of both experience and research field.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must fulfill the following language documents:
  • Applicants must be very English language.
