To attract the best and brightest students, Northumbria University is pleased to announce the Instrumental Scholarships. The bursary is available for the academic year 2024-2025.

The Instrumental Scholarship will provide you with the opportunity to develop your performance skills and work closely with the music teaching staff here at Northumbria.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: UK/Home students
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Full-Time Undergraduate courses at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus and Coach Lane campus
  • Admissible Criteria:
    • Must be a UK/Home student
    • Should have applied for a Full-Time Undergraduate course starting in September 2024 (Foundation Year students are also eligible)
    • Northumbria University must be chosen as the firm choice by June 6, 2024
    • Registration with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW), or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI) is required for payment administration
    • Scottish students must apply to the Students Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for maintenance funding
    • Eligible courses include all Full-Time Undergraduate courses at the specified campuses (excluding placement year)
    • Successful students must play a musical instrument at grade 7 or above
    • Commit to up to four hours a week in rehearsal time and participate in performances during University term time
    • Mandatory rehearsal commitment and performances, with progress monitoring
    • Withdrawal from the scholarship is allowed, but any unpaid monies will not be paid
    • Enroll by September 30, 2024, to receive the scholarship
    • Payment structure: 25% in November 2024, 25% in February 2025, and 50% in May 2025
    • Payments dependent on progression to the next year and adherence to scholarship terms and conditions
    • Outstanding debt with the University will result in the withholding of scholarship payment
    • Northumbria University reserves the right to withdraw the scheme at any point
    • The University’s decision is final, and there is no right of appeal.
