There are an estimated around 21 million people trapped in some form of slavery nowadays. It’s sometimes called “modern-day slavery” and sometimes “human trafficking.” At all times it is slavery at its core. And no matter where you live, chances are it’s happening nearby. From the girl forced into prostitution, the child illegally adopted, the woman working as domestic servant, to the man – ”donator” of his organs. Regardless of age and gender all trafficking victims share one essential experience: the loss of freedom and sense of dignity.
On the contrary we read in the Bible: ”For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery”(Galatians 5:1). Therefore, how to accommodate these contradictions? How to transform written word into reality and bring freedom back? And finally how Christian youth can effectively fight against human trafficking and be heard in public debate? Questions to be answered at the Summer School 2018.
Together with the Foundation Young Republic of Poland, ECPYouth is glad to announce that the registration for the International Summer School 2018 (ISS 2018) is now open. The ISS 2018 will take place in Wrocław, Poland from Thursday 19th until Tuesday 24th July 2018.
The ISS 2018 will especially focus on developing and implementing long-term strategies regarding prevention and fight against modern-day slavery. It will also provide workshops and discussions with international guests. The ISS 2018 offers you a new perspective on concept of Christian leadership, which not only includes a certain knowledge of politics and society, but a strong spirit, an inner conviction and an awareness of the main Christian values.
During the program, you will be faced with questions on how you can relate yourself to overcoming divisions. We will ask ourselves about the role of politics, NGOs as well as of the church in this important topic. Discussing and visiting new places and cultures will open up your horizon to rethink your point of view. It will be a great opportunity to meet young Christian professionals from all over Europe and get insight into Polish politics. After having talked some time about the subject, it is important to get things on paper. This is why we will also ask ourselves at the end of the ISS 2018 what steps we can undertake in our own countries.
Youth and young professionals (18-35 years old) from both EU and non-EU countries interested in issues related to political engagement and public affairs as well as those that are interested in learning more practical skills about political activism are welcomed.
The participation fee depends on the part of Europe you come from.
All participation fees are excluding travel costs and are to be paid in advance. Food and accomodation is included in the fee. Please note that for local participants from Wroclaw, no accomodation is provided as the program assumes that you can stay somewhere in the city
