The IIE Rescue Fund offers scholars or academics support for year-round fellowships. This support is dedicated to professors, researchers, and intellectuals in general who face threats to their lives and careers in their home countries. Fellowships aim to be a one-year temporary support for academic employers at institutions of higher learning anywhere in the world where colleagues through IIE can continue their work safely and away from any threats. IIE fellows are in most cases eligible to apply for second year fellowship support.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for a fellowship, you must be a professor, researcher or public thinker from any country or academic field. Your application for fellowship will be reviewed through your academic qualifications, taking into account the quality of your work and the severity of the threats you face in your country. To give you support.

Preference is given to academics who:

[1] They face or have recently fled serious threats to their lives or jobs in their countries or countries of residence.

[2] Holders of Ph.D. or other postgraduate degrees with extensive teaching or research experience at a university or other higher education institution.

[3] They will prove that they will benefit their country or the academic community around them

[4] IIE encourages applications from women and members of ethnic or religious minorities.

[5] IIE does not consider applications from individuals holding citizenship or any other permanent status in a country other than their home country.

Financing:

IIE fellowship support includes a grant of up to US $ 25,000, along with health insurance and academic support at a university outside the home country of the colleague for up to one year and renewable for another year. The amount of the final grant depends on several factors including the location of the host institution, the cost of living and the value of any additional contributions from the host institution or others. It is usually required that the host institution provide financial support along with IIE support, which can generally be in the form of salary or other direct funding to the visiting colleague such as accommodation, travel costs and meal support.

About the Scientific Rescue Fund

IIE launched the Scientific Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) in 2002 to give practicality to its commitment to preserving the lives, voices and ideas of scientists around the world. Fellowships allow scientists to safely pursue their academic work and continue to share their knowledge with students and the community. After fellowships, academics return to make meaningful contributions to their national scientific institutions and civil society. Since 2002, IIE has supported life for 749 researchers from more than 58 countries in partnership with more than 380 host institutions in 43 countries around the world.Since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria in 2011, the program has awarded fellowships to more than 90 Syrian researchers. The program was awarded the 2013 Academic Freedom Award by the Middle East Studies Association (MESA).
