The Future Learn platform offers a free online course in Big Data and Data Visualization. This course will provide learners with an introduction to the methods, tools and processes involved in the Big Data field. This course is designed for people from different disciplines who want to learn how to produce visualizations that help us understand the problems facing the big data field in the real world.

Course Topics:

  • Introduction to visualization.
  • Information perception.
  • Scientific perception.
  • Visual representation tools.
  • Visual representation design methods.
  • Visual representation in communication.

Course Outcomes:
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explore Big Data frameworks.
  • Having an integrated approach to big data.
  • Develop awareness of how to effectively engage with a team that works with big data experts.

Course Requirements:
Learners will need to have the following tools and programs during the course:

  • Tableau: where you can use the two-week free trial.
  • MATLAB Online: MathWorks will provide you with a license to use MATLAB online for the duration of the course.
  • D3.js: The D3 JavaScript library is available under the BSD license.

Note: Even if you don't have any of the above tools, you can still learn effectively, and see what these tools can offer you in the big data field.

About Teachers:
The course will be given by Tomasz Bednarz, a professor at Queensland University of Technology, and Steven Psaltis, a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Experiments at the University of Queensland.
