Prix Ars Electronica invites individuals from around the world to apply for its 2019 edition, the contest requires ideas and entries that combine between technology and art. In 2019, Ars Electronica is accepting submissions for prize consideration in the following categories:

  1. Computer Animation: The “Computer Animation” category has been part of the Prix Ars Electronica since its very inception, and its development continues to display strength and vitality. It recognizes excellence in independent work in the arts and sciences as well as in high-end commercial productions in the film, advertising and entertainment industries. In this category, artistic originality counts just as much as masterful technical achievement.
  2. Artificial Intelligence & Life Art: The new category “Artificial Intelligence & Life Art” is dedicated to artistic practice and thinking related to all areas of Artificial Intelligence and Life Sciences. Eg artwork engaging with Biotech, Genetic Engineering, Synthetic Biology etc as well as Machine Learning, Deep Learning and any other form of Artificial Intelligence Research.
  3. Digital Musics & Sound Art: Contemporary digital sound productions from the broad spectrum of “electronica” come in for consideration in the “Digital Musics & Sound Art” category, as do works combining sound and media, computer compositions ranging from electro-acoustic to experimental music, as well as sound installations.
  4. u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD: u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD is the Prix Ars Electronica’s category for young people. It gives kids and youngsters up to age 19 the opportunity to have a say about the world of tomorrow and to produce and present their concepts of and ideas for it.

  1. Computer Animation: 1 Golden Nica 10,000 Euro.
  2. Artificial Intelligence & Life Art: 1 Golden Nica 10,000 Euro.
  3. Digital Musics & Sound Art: 1 Golden Nica 10,000 Euro.
  4. u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD: 1 Golden Nica 3,000 Euro, 2 Awards of Distinctions 800 Euro, 1 prize to contestants age 10 and under, 1 prize to the 11 to 14 year-olds.

General

  • A work may be entered in only one category. An artist may submit more than one work.
  • Entrants are requested not to submit irreplaceable originals since submitted materials cannot be returned.
  • In addition to the general entry details and rules, special entry rules apply to each individual category.
  • If your entry is awarded a prize or receives an Honorary Mention, your material will be used for the catalog, DVD (CD) and the Prix Ars Electronica website (see Rights), so you are asked to prepare your picture and text material carefully.
  • Employees of the organizers, sponsors, and patrons of the Prix Ars Electronica, staff members of organizations that have established and endowed an individual category, as well as the competition’s jurors are ineligible to participate.
  • Submitting an entry to the Prix Ars Electronica is free of charge.
