Art Omi invites you to apply for the architects' residency opportunity. The selection is based on the proposed projects and applicant portfolio. Winners of this opportunity will receive individual accommodation and dedicated office space on campus. Projects completed at the end of the stay will be displayed and visitors will be invited to view the work. Architectural critics are invited every year to meet with residents during the final weekend of their stay in order to lead the final presentations that allow the public to observe the process of architecture.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must submit and describe a project they wish to work on, on their own, while at Art Omi.
  2. Projects may be conceptual or practical, and maybe an on-going or existing project that requires completion of a new design scheme to be initiated and completed by the end of the residency.
  3. Projects may not be client-based nor directed. In all instances, a visual presentation and a final work product is required. This may be in the form of drawings, maquettes, collages, digital images and the like.
  4. Each resident is expected to bring their own design tools, with some limited printing and up to $50 allowance for materials provided.
  5. This opportunity is opened to architects from any part of the world that have been professionally active for at least the past six (6) years since professional licensing or obtaining an M. Arch. degree in the U.S or internationally.
  6. Applications will be accepted from early and mid-career architects in active practice or in academia with an architectural design teaching concentration.
  7. Having a Master's degree in Architecture and/or an architectural license IS a requirement.

Benefits:

  • Art Omi can provide transportation to and from the Hudson, NY train station.
  • Residents will receive individual accommodations and dedicated desk-space within the campus.
  • Ledig House, a Federal Period estate house serves as a gathering center for residents, providing a full kitchen, library and laundry facilities. The front porch overlooks rolling hills and the majestic outline of the Catskill Range. A swimming pool, bicycles, WiFi access, and several computers are available on the premises. Chef-prepared lunch and dinner are served daily for communal meals, and a fully stocked kitchen provides plentiful food for breakfasts and snacks.

About Art Omi:

Art Omi announced a new residency program for architects in 2017. This residency is first of its kind in the nation, inviting 10 early- to mid-career architects from around the world to develop their work during a full two-week residency on Art Omi's campus. Art Omi Architecture aims to nurture experimentation at the intersection of architecture, art, and landscape.
