The Keiran McNamara World Heritage PhD Top-Up Scholarship is now available to students who wish to undertake high-quality PhD research related to identifying, managing and conservation of World Heritage areas in Western Australia. The scholarship aims to further knowledge and expertise the conservation and management of the natural values of World Heritage areas in Western Australia by attracting the next generation of outstanding intellects to this state. The Scholarship is offered across all five Western Australian universities and is comprised of a $10,000 per annum stipend (living allowance) and a $15,000 per annum operating allowance for research expenses, including research-related travel.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, an applicant must:

  1. Be a commencing student.
  2. Be a domestic or international student.
  3. Have a bachelor’s degree with first-class honors (H1) or equivalent.
  4. Have applied for candidature in a PhD degree course at a Western Australian university.
  5. Be enrolled full-time, unless there are exceptional circumstances, in a PhD degree course at a Western Australian university as an internal student at a Western Australian campus.
  6. Apply, or have applied, for an ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship, or equivalent postgraduate research scholarship.
  7. Intend to undertake research related to identifying, managing and the conservation of World Heritage areas in Western Australia.

Selection criteria:

Selection is made by the selection body to an eligible applicant on the basis of:

  1. Academic achievement, as evidenced by their academic records.
  2. Research potential based on academic referee reports, relevant research experience and publications if applicable.
