Those willing to study in Canada, especially in the Manitoba province, are welcome to apply for admission to a Master’s or PhD degree program at the University of Manitoba. Admitted eligible students (regardless of their country of origin or citizenship) will be considered for the University of Manitoba Graduate Scholarship (UMGF). Funded up to $2 million dollars each year, this scholarship program is offered to full-time master’s and PhD students, to recognize and support academic excellence.

This scholarship program to study in North America is awarded to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment. Students must be recommended by their department or unit to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for a scholarship. Therefore, interested candidates should first apply and get admitted to their chosen programs at the university. University of Manitoba Graduate Scholarship Benefits

This Canada scholarship will provide the following benefits to selected candidates:

  • master’s student will receive awards that are valued at $14,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, for up to a total of $28,000.
  • doctoral awards are valued at $18,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, for up to a total of $72,000.

Candidates should also be awarded that departments/units determine the value and duration of an award. Total duration of this scholarship for any individual graduate student is five years (60 months). This means that a student who has received this scholarship for two years in their master’s program will only be eligible for three years funding at the doctoral level.

University of Manitoba Graduate Scholarship Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship to Study in Canada, you must:

  • have a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 to be considered for this award. Please contact your department as they may have a higher GPA requirement;
  • have been admitted as a full-time student without provision or have been cleared provisional admission as a master’s or PhD student in a graduate program at the University of Manitoba;
  • the scholarship is tenable in the department or unit in which it was offered at the University of Manitoba;
  • not be enrolled as a full-time student in two programs simultaneously.
