The University of Bielefeld was founded in 1969 with an explicit research mandate and high standards for the quality of a research-based teaching. Today, it comprises 13 faculties covering a wide range of subjects in the fields of human sciences, natural sciences, social sciences and technology. With around 24,000 students in 113 curricula, around 2,750 employees, including 264 professors, junior professors and 1,380 scientific employees, it is one of the medium-sized universities in Germany.
