The University of Amsterdam offers a new prestigious scholarship program in Child Development & Education targeting exceptionally talented Master’s students from outside Europe. The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship is a full scholarship covering tuition and living expenses for one academic year with the possibility of extension for a second year.

Scholarship Criteria:

  1. You must belong to the top 10% of your class and have an overall GPA of at least 8 (scale 1-10) to be considerate for the scholarship.
  2. Sufficient English language skills are a selection criterion. You need to have one of the following;
    • TOEFL:
      • (paper-based): overall score of 600, with a Test of Written English score of 5.5
      • (computer-based): overall score of 250, with Test of Written English score of 5.5
      • (internet-based): overall score of 100
    • IELTS (academic): overall score of 7.0 (with at least 7.0 in each of the four components
    • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): grade A
    • Cambridge Certificate for Proficiency in English (CPE): grade C
  3. English language test results may not be older than 2 years. Students who are native English speakers and have completed an English-taught university program do not have to submit test results.
  4. Academic performance, affinity with research, motivation and extracurricular activities are also part of the selection procedure.

Who can apply for the Research Master’s program?

The Research master’s program is accessible for students with a bachelor's degree in pedagogical sciences or in educational sciences but is also for students with a bachelor's degree in an adjacent study (e.g., psychology, sociology) who want to specialize in research in child development and education.

Funding:

The AES is a full scholarship of €25,000 (covering tuition and living expenses) for one academic year with the possibility of extension for a second year (for two-year Master’s programs).

Note: You must have been accepted to a (Research) Master's program before you are entitled to the AES. Apply for the Research Master's program before applying for the AES. The application for the scholarship and program are two different submissions. You need to submit your application for the program online
