Application calls for Her Abilities Awards 2020 for Women.
Her Abilities Awards was launched by Light for the World to honor women with disabilities who achieved greatness in their life or field of work. Anyone can nominate. However, nominations are open until 27, September 2020.
Her Abilities is the first global award honoring women with disabilities who have achieved greatness in their life or field of work. Moreover, it is a pioneering initiative, launched in 2018 by Light for the World along with Right Livelihood Award winner Yetnebersh Nigussie. Women with disabilities are one of the most marginalized groups globally. Their leadership potential and contributions are so often ignored. In addition to that, Her Abilities aims to tell the untold stories.
By highlighting the achievements of women with disabilities, the Award aims to celebrate success; break down barriers in public perception, as well as build a strong network of women committed to the further pursuit of equality and excellence.
Her Abilities will award the achievements of women with disabilities globally from the following three categories:
Women with disabilities from the health or education sector, e.g. teachers, teaching assistants, school directors, university professors, doctors, surgeons, nurses
Women with disabilities from the advocacy and rights sector, who advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and inclusion. They could be working at NGOs or charities; at government organizations or in government; or simply in their local communities to achieve vital change.
Women with disabilities from the arts and sports sector, e.g. artists, actors, writers, poets, Paralympians, runners, swimmers, etc.
Only women with disabilities whose age is 18 or above can be nominated for Her Abilities Awards.
The jury will consider the following primary criteria in judging the winner:
In addition, the jury may, as a secondary consideration, look at the balance between the three category winners in any given year (including e.g. geographical spread, diversity in personal profiles, and types of achievement).
