The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe.
Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.

PhD student in Computer Science

Duties
As a PhD student your focus will be on your research. For a PhD student up to 20 percent of full time can be spent on education and administration.
Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
You will work on a project called "Cloud Tooling for Large-Scale Cyber-Physical System Model-Based Development". More concrete your project topics include simulation-based verification of requirements using a combination of equation-based models and machine learning trained surrogate models, an easier-to-use and more expressive requirement language and traceability in cloud-based development environments. A candidate for this position is expected to have a Master degree in the area of computer science, computer engineering, or information technology.
The candidate should have the ability of understanding and developing complex software that would be at the base of new, state-of-the-art tooling to tackle Large-Scale Cyber-Physical System Model-Based Development in a cloud context. Knowledge in compiler construction, software engineering, and general development/management tools for software projects is needed. Experience with modeling and simulation tools is a plus but not a requirement. Strong communication skills in English, both verbally and written, are also requirements.
A PhD student's work is driven by curiosity, passion for innovation and creativity, and the ability to work independently. At PELAB/IDA you will work in an excellent research environment with welcoming colleagues and supervisors.
This project is in collaboration with Lund University and the PhD student will be co-supervised by a professor from that site. In this strategic research ELLIIT program, within the LiU-Lund collaboration, you will also cooperate with a new PhD student at Lund (starting at the same time) and enjoy cross visits several months for courses or focused project work.
Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.
Starting date
The first half of 2021 or by agreement.
Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department’s salary scale.
