The University of Stavanger invites applications for a Ph.D. fellowship in finance or economics at the UiS Business School, Department of Economics and Finance. The position is vacant from August 1st, 2021.
The appointment is for three years with research duties exclusively, or four years with both research and 25% compulsory duties. This will be clarified in the recruitment process.
This is a position that will give promising and highly motivated researchers an opportunity for in-depth training, including course work and supervised independent research, leading to a doctoral degree.
Your application must include a preliminary research proposal in ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) or related green conversion that will lead to a PhD in Finance or Economics.
The proposal should describe the research questions you want to pursue, their relevance, and the theoretical and methodological approach you plan to follow. This preliminary proposal is part of the application assessment. During the first three months of the employment period, you will develop your proposal to a final research proposal in cooperation with your supervisors.
We are looking for highly motivated applicants with a strong academic background who have completed a five-year master degree (3+2) within finance or economics, preferably recently; or possess corresponding qualifications that could provide a basis for successfully completing a doctorate. If you are completing your master’s degree in the spring of 2020, you are also welcome to apply.
To be eligible for admission to the doctoral programmes at the University of Stavanger the grade for your master’s thesis and the weighted average grade of your master’s degree must both individually be equivalent to, or better than, a B. Applicants with an education from an institution with a different grade scale than A-F should attach a confirmed conversion scale that shows how the grades can be compared with the Norwegian A-F scale.
The doctoral programme is conducted in English, so applicants should have a very good command of written and oral English.

The appointee will be based at the University of Stavanger, with the exception of a stay abroad at a relevant centre of research. It is a prerequisite that the appointee has a residence which enables him or her to be present at/available to the academic community during ordinary working hours.
The University currently employs few female research fellows within this academic field, and women are therefore particularly encouraged to apply.
