Departmental Lecturer in Global Governance
The Oxford Department of International Development seeks to appoint a Departmental Lectureship in Global Governance, with a particular focus on global trade and finance and/or global environmental governance. The post is fixed-term for three years from 1 September 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 31 August 2024.
The Departmental Lecturer will be responsible to the Head of Department and will provide teaching for the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy (MSc GGD) and carry out related independent research and publications. The MSc GGD is an academic programme that prepares students for careers in regional and transnational institutions of governance, including nongovernmental organizations and private sector firms interacting with these institutions. The degree also prepares students for careers in diplomacy and provides the basis for future doctoral studies. The Departmental Lecturer will be responsible to the Head of Department and work under the supervision of the Course Director of the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy.
Applicants must hold, or be close to the completion of, a doctorate in International Relations or other related field. You will need academic expertise in global trade & finance and/or global environmental governance, as you will teach two ‘Option’ courses in this area. You also will need sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge and theoretical background on the paradigms, institutions and processes of global governance to develop course materials and research proposals. You must have aptitude, ability and experience to teach and supervise graduate students of a high calibre, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design; as well as an active research and publication record commensurate with your stage of career, especially in relation to global governance of trade & finance and/or global environmental governance. You must also be able to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the MSc GGD and work effectively with colleagues as part of a team.
