The thesis work will be carried out within the “Noyaux Exotiques” team of CENBG. There may be missions to experimental sites / conferences. In addition, the doctoral student will have the opportunity to participate in other group activities.

Development and tests of a double Penning trap for SPIRAL2/DESIR and precision mass measurements of exotic nuclei
The main subject of this PhD thesis concerns the offline commissioning of a double Penning trap, which is currently under development at CENBG, with an installation at GANIL expected in 2024. This setup, called PIPERADE (Penning traps for radioactive ions at DESIR) is dedicated to precision mass measurements of exotic nuclei and to the purification of radioactive ion beams for the DESIR users (beta decay studies, laser spectroscopy, TAS, ...). The PhD work will mostly be experimental with measurements/tests at CENBG to optimise the different mass separation and mass spectrometry techniques. In parallel, online mass measurements will allow the student to study the impact of such measurements on the atomic nucleus structure and the nuclear models, as well as the constraints on stellar nucleosynthesis models.
