Salary £27511 to £31866 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30942 with relevant PhD).

We are currently seeking a postdoctoral scientist to join a multi-disciplinary collaborative MRC funded translational research programme involving microbiologists, medicinal chemists, and clinicians to characterise the molecular mode of action of a novel agent targeting Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). The project will explore the structure and biophysics of agent - protein target interactions using complementary techniques. CDI is a serious global public health threat, and is associated with significant morbidity, mortality and healthcare resource utilisation. The US CDC has recently classified this "superbug" among the serious immediate antibiotic-resistant infectious public health threats that require immediate and aggressive action. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the determination of a high-resolution structure of the protein target in complex with the novel agent in combination with a thorough biophysical characterisation of the interaction.

Candidates must have a PhD submitted or awarded in protein crystallography and a track record of successful recombinant protein construct design, crystallisations and 3D structure determination.  Skills in analysing interactions between proteins and ligands using complementary biophysical techniques is also essential.  

This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months. There is a funding end date of 31 March 2022. Job share arrangements may be considered.
