Salary £27511 to £33797 per annum, pro rata depending on skills and experience (minimum £30942 with relevant PhD).
The post holder will primarily have responsibility for epidemiological analyses of population disease incidence and prevalence within the Clinical Epidemiology Research Group at the University of Nottingham’s School of Medicine, predominantly focussing on chronic gastrointestinal diseases in the United Kingdom. The research will include one of the largest studies of inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease in the world; it will describe the detailed epidemiology of these conditions across the United Kingdom providing up to-do-date figures as well as exploring potential inequalities in testing or investigation that could lead to underdiagnosis in certain groups of the population. These numbers are needed for planning healthcare on a national scale to decide whether some areas or groups of people may need targeting for diagnostic investigation or increasing awareness of symptoms. Findings of the research will inform clinicians and policy makers for the purposes of health care planning and will show areas for improvements in diagnosis that could be achieved.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Associate/Fellow with experience of statistical analysis who will be expected to plan and conduct work using appropriate advanced analysis methodologies in population epidemiology and will be responsible for writing up work for publication as research papers and reports. Research will use national data from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and will require the role holder to conduct data management and analysis of routinely collected health records from millions of patients. As such, it is expected that the post holder will have qualifications related to epidemiology, medical statistics, analytical public health, health services research, data science or an equivalent, that demonstrate knowledge of appropriate theory and concepts. Practical experience of statistical analyses in population health or data science will also be needed, ideally of large health databases.
The post holder will join an established team of epidemiologists and clinical doctors with an extensive track record in large database epidemiology using multiply linked electronic health records. We are a collaborative team of academics who are working alongside funders from leading UK patient-centred charities to produce the current research. The post holder will be expected to have good communication and time management skills to work within this team. This is a part-time (27 hours per week) fixed-term post, available until 31 December 2021.
