Urban Lab invites applications for PhD studies in analytical chemistry. The position is in the Department of Chemistry, National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan).

The graduate research will encompass development of novel analytical tools based on mass spectrometry and optical detection. More information on our current work can be found on the lab website (http://www.UrbanLab.tw ).

Our goal is to educate a new generation of chemists by giving them an opportunity to gain practical experience in biochemical analysis. The forthcoming research topics extend over the areas of mass spectrometry, clinical chemistry, biochemistry, automation, and inventing new analytical instruments. Most projects are interdisciplinary. Some of them are highly challenging and their outcomes cannot easily be predicted.

We welcome applications from candidates who enjoy doing scientific experiments. The desired personal qualities include: ability to solve scientific problems, commitment to high-quality work, patience, reliability, honesty, positive attitude, self-discipline, and ethics.

In general, the applicants should have MSc degree in analytical chemistry. However, candidates with MSc degrees in engineering, electronics, computer science, or biochemistry may also be considered if they can clearly complement the team’s expertise in certain areas. Those with prior experience in mass spectrometry, instrumentation development, or microfluidics are particularly welcome to apply.

Shortlisted candidates will be directed to submit a formal application for admission to the NTHU and scholarship. The position will be available contingent on the approval of the candidate by the funding agency, and fulfillment of the relevant employment and immigration regulations (including those related to COVID-19 pandemic).

Apply by email to Assoc. Prof. Pawel Urban (urban@mx.nthu.edu.tw ).
