Job description
The London RF Laboratory as a part of Centre for Medical Engineering is looking for a specialist in radiofrequency (RF) engineering to implement a safety monitoring system technology for parallel transmit (PTx) Magnetic Resonance Imaging/spectroscopy (MRI/S) operating at a range of field strengths. Within our imaging clinical research facility at St Thomas’ Hospital in London we have multiple MRI systems operating at clinical field strengths and we are installing a new Siemens Terra 7T whole body scanner with 8 channel PTx. We wish to develop technology to allow PTx capabilities to be deployed in a flexible way on any Siemens system in our facility.
You will be a core engineer working as part of a small team who will together develop, implement, and support the proposed PTx capability.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for up to 1 year.
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

Skills, knowledge, and experience
Essential criteria
Education:
Grade 5 (Research Assistant)
1. BSc/BEng/MSc/MEng
Grade 6 (Research Associate)
2. PhD at or near completion*
* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.

3. Knowledge of electronics
4. Experience in MATLAB, Phyton or similar
5. Working as a part of a multidisciplinary research team, relying on and supporting others effectively
6. Presenting scientific research in the form of papers, posters and oral presentations
7. Use of computers/software including MATLAB (or similar), database and research literature searching
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
9. Ability to work to scientific deadlines
10. Ability to work without close supervision
11. Ability to plan and prioritize workload
Desirable criteria
1. Experience in National instruments LabView software
2. Experience with basic RF lab equipment use including network analysers, noise figure meters, oscilloscopes, etc
3. Experience in RF circuit modeling, prototyping and testing
4. Experience of safety validation and assurance for human use of research RF technology
5. Applying specialist knowledge in the context of medical imaging
