The International Consortium for Research in the Humanities (IKGF) "Fate, Freedom, and Prognostication. Strategies for Coping with the Future in East Asia and Europe" at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg invites applications for fellowships.
Scholars from the broader field of Sinology who are working on issues related to the research focus "Fate, Freedom and Prognostication" and preferably those who are open to a comparative approach with an Asian-European perspective are invited. Scholars of European Medieval History and Premodern Societies who are working on the given research focus “Fate, Freedom and Prognostication” and who are open to a comparative perspective are invited. For more information about this field, please contact Dr. Hans-Christian Lehner at hans-christian-lehner@fau.de The Consortium also offers several opportunities in fields beyond the leading disciplines of Sinology and Medieval History. Scholars from broader research fields, namely East and South Asian Studies, Philosophy, History of Thought, History of Science, Social History, History of European Early Modern Times, Religious Studies, Ethnology, Literary Studies, and Economy are welcomed.
The IKGF family is devoted to facilitating research on prognostication and prediction across time, place, and discipline. During your stay, you are expected to contribute a chapter to the book projects or an article related to one of the research themes. You are supported in pursuing your own topics that match the agenda by offering an inspiring research atmosphere in an interdisciplinary and international environment, which includes collaboration and intellectual exchange with all research disciplines at the Consortium.
The stipend is competitive and offers the possibility to substitute the fellow at his or her home institution. Fellowships at the Consortium comprise a period of six to twelve months. Your research stay may be postponed in order to position it during an appropriate research phase to promote exchange among visiting scholars with a similar research focus. The Consortium covers return travel expenses to Erlangen. A fully-equipped office will be provided as well as organizational help for visa application and housing.
Visiting scholars must hold a PhD degree and have outstanding expertise in the focus of the research project. Your presence at the Consortium during your research stay and your participation in the Consortium's activities, together with substantial research results in the form of publications are expected.
The Consortium is an international institution and the main language spoken is English. A knowledge of German is not required, although it would be an advantage.
